World Site Day 2026

The World Site Day 2026

The day raises awareness about blindness and vision impairment and encourages governments, health organizations, and individuals to prioritize eye health. It began in 2000 as part of the Lions Clubs’ SightFirst campaign and is now coordinated by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB), with backing from the World Health Organization.

According to WHO estimates, at least 2.2 billion people worldwide live with some form of vision impairment, and around half of those cases could have been prevented or have yet to be addressed. Common causes include uncorrected refractive errors (needing glasses), cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. The burden falls hardest on low- and middle-income countries, where access to eye care is limited.

Ways people take part include:

Getting an eye exam and encouraging family and friends to do the same
Organizing free screenings or awareness events in schools, workplaces, and communities
Donating to or volunteering with eye-care organizations
Sharing information on social media

The core message is that good vision is essential for education, work, and quality of life, and that most vision loss can be prevented or treated if people get care early.

Here at Daughters of Charity Rehabilitation Centre, we are giving out free consultation and test on the 8th of October 2026
