Types of Glaucoma
Glaucoma manifests in different forms, the most common being:
Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG):
The most prevalent type.
Develops slowly with no early symptoms.
Vision loss occurs gradually, making regular eye check-ups essential.
Angle-Closure Glaucoma:
Occurs when the drainage angle in the eye becomes blocked.
Can cause sudden vision loss, severe pain, nausea, and redness.
Requires immediate medical attention.
Normal-Tension Glaucoma:
Optic nerve damage occurs despite normal eye pressure.
The exact cause remains unclear, but poor blood flow to the optic nerve may play a role.
Congenital Glaucoma:
Present at birth due to improper eye drainage development.
Requires early surgical intervention to prevent vision loss.
