How to use the eye drop

Using eye drops correctly helps ensure the medication is effective and minimizes waste or discomfort. Here are simple, step-by-step tips for using eye drops properly:

Before Applying the Eye Drops

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Check the label for the correct eye, dosage, and expiration date.
  3. Shake the bottle gently if it says “shake well.”

👁️ Applying the Eye Drops

  1. Tilt your head back or lie down, and look up toward the ceiling.
  2. Gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
  3. Hold the dropper above the eye (without touching your eye or lashes).
  4. Squeeze out one drop into the pocket of the lower eyelid.
  5. Close your eye gently for 1–2 minutes. Don’t blink or squeeze tightly.
  6. Press lightly on the inner corner of your eye (near your nose) for about 30–60 seconds. This helps prevent the drop from draining into your throat.

💡 Additional Tips

  • Wait at least 5 minutes between using different eye drops in the same eye.
  • If using ointment and drops, apply the drop first, wait 10 minutes, then apply the ointment.
  • Don’t touch the tip of the dropper to your eye or anything else to keep it sterile.
  • Store properly: Some drops require refrigeration, others don’t—check the label.
  • If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it’s almost time for the next dose.
